I had the pleasure of watching London Wasps play Saracens in the Aviva Rugby Premiership on Saturday; a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, despite the result, and a deserved win for Saracens. The previous Saturday I’d watched London Wasps lose at home for the first time in this Aviva Rugby Premiership season, this time to Northampton Saints. Some refereeing decisions angered the crowd to the point that there were isolated cries of ‘cheat, cheat’ from around the ground. Not good; so I was pleased to read these comments from London Wasps Chairman Mark Rigby in Saturday’s programme QUOTE It was a shame to some fans react so vocally in the negative fashion they did at the end of the game towards the referee. Whatever disappointment there may have been with some decions that went against us, we mest remember the core values that distinguish rugby from other sports and one of those is certainly respecting the referee UNQUOTE. I wonder if he was thinking about one sport in particular! But well done Mark Rigby and London Wasps. Refereering at the top level in any sport requires dedication, professionalism and skill and far more often than not referees get their decisions right. So lets support, not abuse them.
