Yesterrday evening I had the pleasure of attending a Bicester Choral and Operatic Society – aka BCOS – rehearsal for our 50th Anniversary Concert on 27 April. The Concert is a wonderful compilation of choral pieces by great English composers such as Hubert Parry, William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, Edward Elgar, Thomas Tallis, Henry Purcell and Arthur Sullivan.
What a remarkable tradition we have in England for choral music; in Oxford alone there are three professional choirs attached to the University that sing offices daily at Christchurch, Magdalen and New College respectively. Long may that that great tradition continue. As Shakespeare might have written ‘Give me excess of it, because surfeiting the appetite will never sicken and so die’! And don’t forget to get your tickets for the BCOS Concert, folks.
